Researcher Information

Researchers should use the following resources to determine next steps for finding information about conducting human subjects research at the University of St. Thomas.

For University of St. Thomas Researchers

Information about how to apply for review, full review deadlines, IRB requirements, and CITI Program instructions are available to University of St. Thomas researchers on the IRB OneStThomas site. UST researchers should read through OneStThomas prior to applying for IRB review.

For External Researchers

Researchers from colleges and universities beyond St. Thomas who wish to conduct research at the University of St. Thomas or recruit students or employees for participation should contact Sarah Muenster-Blakley at muen0526@stthomas.edu or (651) 962-6035 to discuss IRB requirements.

Training Requirements

All research team members and personnel who will assist with research procedures, be part of the consent process, or have access to identifiable research data must complete the online Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Program training. University students and employees may find additional information about the CITI Program requirement on OneStThomas. External researchers and research personnel should contact Sarah Muenster-Blakley at muen0526@stthomas.edu for access to CITI Program.

  • RCR training completed for sponsored research does not complete the required IRB training needed to conduct human subjects research.
  • Social-Behavioral-Educational researchers (SBER) and research personnel must complete the CITI Program course titled "Human Subjects Training: Social-Behavioral-Educational Research" to complete the training requirement.
  • Biomedical researchers and research personnel must complete the CITI Program course titled "Human Subjects Training: Biomedical Researchers" to complete the training requirement.

If you are unsure whether your role in a research study includes a training requirement, please contact Sarah Muenster-Blakley at muen0526@stthomas.edu.
