Praise Him All Ye Little Children
This project seeks to fulfill the need for a sequenced U.S. Christian school general music curriculum option from a Kodály perspective. The project explores the biblical reasons for a quality music education program. In order to understand folk sacred music options from a Kodály perspective, the project briefly traces U.S. sacred music history from the early European settlers through the early 20th Century. Genres include New England psalmody, American Folk Hymnody, Spirituals, and Gospel Songs. The U.S. hymnody history meshes with Kodály’s philosophical and pedagogical tenets emphasizing high quality heritage folk music appropriately sequenced for all students to form the basis for a curriculum. The project includes sixty U.S. hymns and sacred songs which divides into a kindergarten through fourth-grade scope and sequence and applies to a set of sample lesson plans for each grade.
