Selecting Repertoire for Beginning Orchestra Ensembles
The purpose of this project was to develop guidelines and a checklist to select repertoire for beginning orchestra ensembles. A review of related literature spanning multiple music education methodologies as well as different ensemble types and education levels draws out concerns and suggestions for selecting repertoire from highly respected music educators. Skills and concepts found in multiple beginning orchestra method books are outlined to serve as a foundation for the guidelines developed. A culminating checklist streamlines the guideline information into a practical and reproducible form for beginning orchestra music educators to use with their music library inventory. This project concludes with six completed repertoire checklists.
