Recorded Models of Selected Etudes from The Musical Magic Lesson Book Series
This curriculum project centers around collecting recordings of selected etudes from book 1 of the instrumental band lesson method book series Musical Magic, written by Rita Grethen Jarrard. These recordings are meant to be used in conjunction with the printed etudes in order to model new concepts, including pitches, rhythms, dynamics, articulations, etc. to beginning band students. A history and an explanation of the method books will be examined, along with an explanation of the benefits of modeling new concepts and other musical elements (including tone, intonation, dynamics, pitch and rhythm accuracy) to beginning band students. This project will also include lists of the etudes that were selected from each book, along with an explanation of the reason that each etude was selected.
