Factors that Influence Student Enrollment in Secondary Choirs
The purpose of this literature review was to ascertain factors that influence student enrollment in secondary choirs. Positive music self-concept and singers’ relationships with teachers, peers, and family members emerged as the most significant factors that determined whether or not students took choir. Social reasons, academic reasons, gender issues, program reputation, and scheduling also had some bearing on secondary choir enrollment. Implications and suggestions for future research are also discussed.
