Wind Quintet Invitational

A day of listening and learning activities for high school through adult musicians interested in wind quintet repertoire (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn).

Date & Time:

Sunday, March 1, 2015
9:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Brady Educational Center
University of St. Thomas

Instrument-specific breakout sessions will be led by the following UST faculty and guest instructors: Polly Meyerding (flute); Rachel Brudnoy (oboe); Jen Gerth (clarinet); Sarah Schmalenberger (horn); and Peter Douglas (bassoon).

This year, the repertoire we will study/play will be the Wind Quintet in Eb, Opus 88 No. 2 by Anton Reicha; and "Dreams of the White Tiger," by Daniel Baldwin, a new commission from the Consortium of Quintets.

Student and adult musicians are invited to participate in a special event celebrating the repertoire of Woodwind Quintet Music. Play your instrument with peers and mentors, and discuss techniques particular to your instrument with UST wind faculty. Enjoy the camaraderie of rehearsing together a challenging work for wind quintet. You will gain a newfound appreciation for chamber music, and the inspiration to continue learning about quintet repertoire.

Our aim is to promote chamber music among wind players, and especially students seeking to develop their musicianship skills. The opportunity to work together on a common musical project, and to collaborate with a diverse representation of musicians at all stages of development will strengthen the skills of the entire group.
