Music Matters Now More Than Ever

What to Expect in 2020-2021

The Department of Music will hold in-person ensemble rehearsals (classes) under the guidance of all scientific research and governmental health directives. The health and safety of our students will be of primary importance. We will take the necessary steps to ensure the health and well-being of all our musicians as prescribed by the ongoing research in the field of ensemble rehearsal and performance. If conditions related to COVID-19 change during the semester and require the university to move from in-person contact to online learning, the Department of Music will implement its plan to quickly switch into a virtual platform where we will continue to learn music as an ensemble by using available technology.

Your Audition Could Be Your Passport!

We are proud of our award-winning groups, many of which have appeared at state, regional, national and international music conferences. Our ensembles perform in a variety of venues including O'Shaughnessy Auditorium (St. Paul) and Orchestra Hall (downtown Minneapolis). Taking pride in our innovative programming, St. Thomas ensembles have commissioned over 80 works by nationally recognized composers. Instrumental and choral ensembles perform with guest artists from around the country and abroad and regularly appear on commercial recording labels. Ensembles are open to all students by audition.
