Co-sponsored by the John A. Ryan Institute for Catholic Social Thought in anticipation of the 2022 conference "Freedom, Subsidiarity, and the Spirit of Gift".

Never was public debt as high as it is now, practically in all developed economies. According to the data of the Congressional Budget Office, US public debt is going to be $23 trillion in 2022, which is about 102% of GDP. Other economies that are less strong than the US economy have even higher debt ratios. These are enormous sums. Should we be worrying as nations and as a civilization? Is there a threat to freedom? Shouldn’t federal and State governments and their debt be limited, as the principle of subsidiarity recommends?

This program is free and open to the public.
