ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKERS:
ROSS DOUTHAT is the youngest op-ed columnist in the history of The New York Times, joining in 2009. He writes about politics, religion, moral values and higher education and is credited with helping the foundering conservative movement find a new relevance and new constituencies in 21st century America. His column appears every Wednesday and Sunday. A convert to Catholicism during his teen years, Douthat is a 2002 magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University. Before joining the Times, he was a senior editor at The Atlantic. He is a film critic for National Review and has written for the Claremont Review of Books, GQ, Slate and other publications. Douthat is the author of Bad Religion: How We Became a Nation of Heretics, and Privilege: Harvard and the Education of the Ruling Class, and a co-author, with Reihan Salam, of Grand New Party: How Republicans Can Win the Working Class and Save the American Dream.
DR. CORNEL WEST is a prominent and provocative intellectual and advisor to Bernie Sanders. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard in three years and obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from Princeton University where he taught until 2011. Dr. West currently holds a joint appointment at the Harvard Divinity School and the department of African and African-American studies as Professor of the Practice of Public Philosophy, a title reserved for those who have made outstanding contributions in their professional fields. He has also taught at Yale, Union Theological Seminary in New York, and the University of Paris. He has written over 20 books including Race Matters, Democracy Matters, and Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud. Dr. West's most recent releases, Black Prophetic Fire and Radical King, were received with critical acclaim.
