Application Checklist

Your first step is to start the application online. In the application, you will answer some questions and upload the documents described below. Once you've completed all components you will submit the application, and can log back into the portal at any time to check the status of your application materials.

We are seeking candidates with at least 2 years of work experience. In the online application, you will upload your resume that outlines all relevant experience.

As part of the application, we ask you to answer three essay questions. You can either download a PDF of essay questions and upload that form once you've answered the questions, or upload your own document that answers these questions:

  • Why have you decided to pursue a Part-time Flex MBA program at this point in your professional career? Describe why you have specifically chosen to apply to the Part-time Flex MBA Program at St. Thomas, and how the program will support your short and long-term goals. (500 words)
  • Provide examples of two teamwork scenarios you have experienced professionally: one great experience and one challenging experience. Explain the team assignment/goal, your specific role and contributions, and what you learned about leadership and working towards a common goal from navigating through each situation. (500 words)
  • Describe a concept or an idea that you have put into practice, the challenges you faced, and why this accomplishment is indicative of your potential success in the Part-time Flex MBA Program. (500 words)

To apply to this program, you must have a bachelor's degree in any subject from a regionally accredited U.S. institution (or the international equivalent). We need original transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions you have attended, sent directly from the school. The only exception is for advanced placement courses and study abroad transfer credits--we don't need transcripts for those.

Send via email: If your institution offers electronic transcripts, ask them to email your transcript(s) to gradadmissions@stthomas.edu

Send via mail: Paper transcripts must be submitted in sealed envelopes and signed by the appropriate university official. Send to:

University of St. Thomas
Graduate Records - Admissions
1000 LaSalle Ave, Box 5
Minneapolis, MN 55403-2005

International applicants: Please see the transcript requirements in the international checklist below.

Candidates applying for the Part-Time Flex MBA program are not required to submit GMAT or GRE standardize test scores.

No additional demonstration of skills and proficiency or testing will be required if you meet the following criteria:

  1. You have a cumulative GPA above 3.0 with strong performance in quantitative coursework or
  2. You have a STEM/quantitative degree (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with cumulative GPA above 2.8

Applicants not meeting the above criteria will be required to complete a self-paced online quantitative prep course, MBA Math. Applicants may still be approved for a waiver of the prep course through our waiver process. Please connect 1:1 with your admissions representative to determine your requirements.

While most candidates will not have the requirement as part of their admission, we recommend all candidates consider completing the MBA Math self-paced preparation course and assessments. This is a great tool to introduce you to or refresh your understanding of foundational and quantitative topics important to the MBA Core curriculum such as: Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, and Spreadsheet skills.

If you are an international student wanting to apply to the Part-time Flex MBA program, you must complete the standard application checklist:

  • Submit an online application
  • Conduct a video interview with one of our admissions representatives

You also need to meet these international requirements:

English Proficiency Tests

All international applicants and non-native speakers of English must submit scores from the TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo to be considered for admission. Score reports can be no more than two years old to be accepted. If you have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited college or university in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand, then you are exempt from taking an English proficiency test upon verification of your completed transcript.

Minimum score requirements:

  • IELTS: minimum overall band score of 7.0, with a minimum score of 6.5 on each of the four sections.
  • TOEFL iBT (Internet-based test): minimum total score of 90, with a minimum score of 20 on each of the four sections. To submit your test score, you’ll need our institutional code: 6110. Official score reports (not photocopies) are required. Please keep in mind that scores may take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive in our office.
  • Duolingo: minimum score of 110

International Transcript Evaluation

To apply to the Part-Time Flex MBA program, you must have at least the international equivalent of a four-year bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited U.S. institution. If you completed your undergraduate or graduate work at a college or university outside of the United States, you must complete a transcript evaluation. There are two ways to complete this evaluation (choose one):

  1. Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) and World Education Services (WES) are independent transcript evaluation services that St. Thomas accepts for international transcript evaluation. If you choose to have ECE or WES do your evaluation, you will receive a copy of the evaluation. To use ECE or WES, visit either site  and choose the “Start Your Evaluation” option.
  2. If you already have a transcript evaluation, or would prefer to arrange your own evaluation, email the admissions office or call (651) 962-8800. We first need to ensure that the evaluation service you use is accepted by our university.
