Degree Requirements

The University of St. Thomas grants the degree Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts (A.A.) to individuals who successfully complete its associate degree programs. To receive an associate of arts degree, a student must successfully complete a minimum of 64 credits and fulfill all degree requirements.

A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 must be achieved in order to earn the associate of arts degree.

Dean’s Honor List

A student who attains a grade point average of 3.50 or more at the end of a semester in which he or she has taken at least twelve credits for regular grades (A, B, C) will be placed on the Dean’s Honor List if there are no grades of D or F or marks of I or R. 

The list is made public and the student receives a letter of commendation from the Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies.

Associate Degree Academic Honors

Three types of academic honors are conferred upon graduates of the Dougherty Family College program.

Distinction
A scholar whose overall cumulative grade point average and St. Thomas grade point average are both between 3.50-3.69 receives the associate degree with distinction.

High Distinction
A scholar whose overall cumulative grade point average and St. Thomas grade point average are both between 3.70-3.89 receives the associate degree with high distinction.

Highest Distinction
A scholar whose overall cumulative grade point average and St. Thomas grade point average are both between 3.90 or higher receives the associate degree with the highest distinction.
